Got questions?

We’ve made things simple

Here are the answers to the things people ask us most about how WeatherIt works.

Understanding the Product

What does WeatherIt cover and what rainfall counts?

WeatherIt Rain Insurance pays a fixed cash benefit if rainfall reaches the rainfall trigger shown on your policy during your coverage hours on a covered day.

It only covers rainfall – not wind, hail, snow, lightning, temperature, humidity, or other weather.
Rainfall must meet or exceed your rainfall trigger during your coverage hours (usually 8am – 8pm, but the correct coverage hours are shown on your policy schedule).

Rainfall measurements are verified using trusted official data sources.

No forms, no receipts, and no need to cancel your plans – payouts happen automatically when rainfall meets the trigger.

WeatherIt uses trusted, official weather-station data to ensure every payout is based on reliable, and independent rainfall information.

• In Australia: data comes from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)
• In New Zealand: data comes from MetService or NIWA

If BOM (in Australia) or MetService/NIWA (in New Zealand) data is not available, WeatherIt will use rainfall data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) for the same meteorological station identified in your policy schedule. This ensures that all measurements remain consistent, transparent, and geographically accurate.

Your policy schedule shows:

• The name of the weather station used for your coverage; and
• The distance between your insured location and that weather station.

Only rainfall data from these approved sources is used to determine whether a payout is triggered.

WeatherIt’s Customer Portal also has a chart that shows:

• Daily rainfall from your named weather station
• Your policy rainfall trigger line
• Your coverage hours per day
• Historic rainfall (before your trip) and real-time during your insured dates
• Clear markers when a rainfall trigger is reached

For the accommodation & camping sector – coverage is daytime only – typically 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM for multi day product bookings given these are when outdoor plans are most affected by weather. Your exact hours are shown on your policy schedule.

No coverage applies to your accommodation checkout day.

You can purchase a policy up to 1 year in advance, and coverage can run from 1 to 21 consecutive days, matching your booking.

For single day events, coverage hours are specific to that event are clearly identified in your policy schedule.

Yes – the maximum you can receive is the sum of the fixed daily payouts shown on your policy schedule for your covered days.
• Each day is assessed separately
• There’s no excess to pay
• We never pay more than the total fixed amounts shown on your policy

Buying & Eligibility

How do I purchase WeatherIt protection?

Add it when you book with a WeatherIt partner. Before you buy, you’ll see an offer for Rain Protection. It will show:
• Total premium
• Fixed cash payout per covered day
• Your rain threshold trigger and coverage hours

We’ll send your policy schedule (by email/SMS) immediately after purchase. This will confirm all of your coverage details including the nearest weather station to your insured location.

Individuals 18+, for personal (non-commercial) use, booking through a WeatherIt partner, purchased at least 48 hours before the insured period starts.
WeatherIt covers outdoor accommodation experiences such as campsites, campgrounds, holiday parks, resorts, farm stays, cabins, lodges, glamping, and caravan parks. In addition, we also provide coverage for out outdoor based sporting events, festivals, concerts, tours and activities.
Coverage is limited to the insured location and dates shown on your policy schedule.

Payout & Claims

How do payouts work and how long do their take?

You don’t need to submit a claim. If rainfall meets your trigger, WeatherIt automatically starts the payout process.

You’ll get an email/SMS to securely confirm your nominated payment details. Once you confirm these to us, payments are processed within 1-3 business days and we’ll keep you updated throughout.

Your payout is a fixed cash benefit per covered day, set when you buy your policy. The specific amount and the rainfall trigger are shown on your policy schedule.
Each covered day is checked independently. If rainfall levels reaches the rainfall trigger on multiple covered days, you’ll receive the payout for each of those days.
Example only: If your policy was for a multi-day period and pays $330 per covered day and the rainfall trigger is met on two days, you will be paid $330 for each day, with a total payout of $660. (The payments are made separately on each independent day where the rainfall trigger is met).
If your booking includes accommodation, no payout eligibility applies on the checkout day.

Yes. Your WeatherIt Rain Insurance payout is based only on measured rainfall reaching the rain threshold trigger during your coverage hours – not on whether you attend, leave early, or decide to stay home.

You have complete flexibility:

• You may still go and enjoy your event
• Stay if you are already there
• You may choose to leave early because of rain; or
• You may decide not to travel at all

Under any of these choices, if rainfall at your insured location reaches the rain threshold trigger on any covered day, you will still receive your fixed cash payout – as long as your accommodation or outdoor experience booking remains active and is not cancelled.

You don’t need to prove you attended – payouts are based purely on verified rainfall data. This ensures that your protection works automatically, regardless of how the weather affects your plans.

Cancellations & Policy Changes

What if my booking or event is cancelled?

A: If your operator cancels (for example, a venue closure or site shutdown), your policy is automatically cancelled because the insured event cannot occur. In such cases:

• Your accommodation provider’s standard cancellation policy will apply to your booking
• WeatherIt will provide a full return of your insurance premium
• Please contact us at [email protected] to process your premium return promptly

We recommend confirming your accommodation provider’s weather-related cancellation policies when making your booking.

If you cancel your booking yourself, different rules apply – see ‘Can I cancel my policy after purchase?’ below.

You may cancel only if:

• You also cancel your accommodation or experience booking, and:
• You do this at least 2 days before your insured dates begin, and
• You provide written confirmation of your booking cancellation.

If eligible, we provide a full return of premium. Email [email protected] to request cancellation.

Cancellations after your insured period begins are not possible, even if the weather forecast changes.

Policy changes aren’t available. If your dates/location change, cancel (if eligible under the rules above) and buy a new policy tied to your new booking once it’s confirmed.
